the spring lookbook pt. 5/5

Finally got around to seeing The September Issue tonight and realized all the fuss around Grace Coddington. Yes, I do love her. She possesses every quality I would expect from someone in fashion - innovation, fearlessness, and unadulterated whimsy. But despite her brilliance, most of our admiration stems from her love for what she does and her pride in her work.

If you haven't watched it yet, you can stream it online through Netflix, purchase it via the website/Amazon, and rent/buy it on iTunes. You won't regret it.

When I went to scan my photos from San Francisco (which was where I was last week - you would know this if you followed me on TWITTER), my scan spazzed out and told me that it couldn't scan from APS film. Gahhh.

So happy that my first weekend back in the A emulated California weather so much. I spent the morning schmoozing with the sales team at Jeffrey Atlanta (gabbed on and on about Isabel Marant, OMG it was like I was an automated machine that made positive reviews about the SS10 collection, can they hire me as a brand marketer?) before going to Apres Diem for a very late brunch. Ciao Bella (drink) + sun = pure bliss.

the spring lookbook pt. 4/5

When "Moulin Rouge" came out, the film was a huge deal. Nicole Kidman landed herself on the cover of Vogue (back in the era when fashion magazines still featured models as cover girls), dressed in a red Oscar de la Renta dress. Baz Luhrmann was able to recover from that cheesy, advice "song" he made that touted the benefits of sunscreen. Ewan McGregor was introduced to American audiences and also established the fact that he was more than just a pretty face - he was a pretty face who could sing, too. I first saw it in the theater with my then best friend (who hated it) and a gay couple I bonded with at the end of the film.

Watching it again, years later, I see that there are so many elements of the film that were so ridiculous but overlooked in my young mind. The "Like A Virgin" scene is really insane. The single black man in the film is named Chocolat. Nicole Kidman's face is a bit too red during the "Elephant Love Medley," and Ewan's star power severely trumps anything Nicole brings to the table. But one thing remained the same - Kylie's role in the film is pivotal, and I want to be the green fairy for Halloween.

the spring lookbook pt. 3/5

While trying to think of some witty story to go along with these photos, I gave up. I keep thinking about that segment in "Pretty in Pink" when Duckie lip syncs to Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" and how perfectly his coordination is. Also, the delivery of the line, "Do I offend?" is so classic. Did you know that Duckie was supposed to originally end up with Andy? I always thought that it should've been that way, although personally I would've gone for Steff. I have a soft spot for overpriviledged, country club boys with horrible attitudes towards society that isn't theirs. Or maybe just for James Spade.
