We've all known it was going to happen.

I'm not interested in writing about fashion exclusively. I don't want to post a bunch of WIWT posts. I think personal style is a wash, mostly, and I don't care enough to pretend to be interested in how people wear their Forever 21 tops with their Target collab finds.

I've evolved from the person who started this blog in 2008, a time in which I was grappling with how to release my desire to be creative while working a 9 to 5 desk job. It's time to move on.

I'll be writing at culturedswine.com for now. There will be some fashion. There will also be stories about dating, friendship, and travels. Because honestly, in my life, I don't feel like the fun should ever stop.

See you around!

She was very lonely. Or so she thought. But she still had her imagination and lots of fluffy thoughts thanks to novels but Netlifx, mostly. One day, she was introduced to a boy with whom she thought she had a connection despite the protestations of her friends (every single one of them). And so she opened herself up to him. Until one day, she discovered that he wasn't a rat or even a super rat, but just a scared little mouse.

Alone again, she wandered thoughtlessly for a few weeks until she saw a beautiful Boy in the windows of a black and white store. It was as if this Boy had been waiting for her all along, to be embraced in her arms and to swing proudly from her shoulder. It's so much easier to get the jokers out of the deck when you've got the world's most perfect Boy by your side. Well, in addition to your personal band of homegrown pink princess terrorists.
Cirque du Soleil: TotemOn Friday, I went to the big tent in Atlantic Station to see the latest Atlanta installment of the Cirque du Soleil productions. This was my first time seeing anything by the company live, though I've made a few attempts to see the "LOVE" show every time I was in Vegas.

I've always been a fan of gymnasts, the height of my obsession being Alexei Nemov at the Sydney Olympics (am I dating myself here?), but Cirque du Soleil's 'Totem' isn't just about amazing body feats. Set to a world music soundtrack, the show features the traditional contortionists, elements from the Shanghai circus, and so many other artistic visual delights.

But above all, my favorite part happened backstage, where I got to view the costumes up close. Handmade in every aspect of the word, the clothes are the most spectacular carnival of color. And OMG, DO NOT even get me started on the meticulously arranged rows of MAC make-up. The OCD organizer in me squealed for joy when I saw it.

All of the masks are fitted for each artist, and look shockingly real (or gross, depending on how much you love apes). Another aspect I found surprising is that each actor is required to do their own makeup, and as you can see from the sample Polaroid, the makeup can become quite intricate. This particular actor used to require around 3 hours to put on his performance face. He is now apparently down to 1-1.5 hours. (That would not be me. I would be the loser sitting in front of the mirror for half a day.)

The tour goes on for 15 years, so even if you're not in Atlanta, there's a good chance it might still come to your city. This particular big top is only in ATL until Dec. 31, so you should plan accordingly.

I'm just having a major lifestyle change.

This blog has been on my mind for the past few weeks. I no longer see the point of having a blog with a bunch of photos where I'm standing awkwardly in front of some landmark or dully in front of this tired wall in my room to show off how I paired a black skirt with a black sweater. Call it my blog's 4.5 year crisis.

I've always been a firm believer of change, and evolution hasn't really touched this space. However, I'm out of ideas. Not sure if I want to still continue as a fashion blog or move towards an Atlanta-based news/event space. The largest part of me just wants to make it a giant space of everything - quite a reflection of the chaos that is my life and me.

All this talk about how blogs should be a marketed towards a specific audience and target a niche point of view just makes me want to barf. How is this possible when I am nothing and everything at the same time?

I'm southern. But I'm not blonde. I'm Asian. But I don't dress like a Californian. Or like Rei Kawakubo. I'm not downtown or uptown. I'm classic and modern. Okay, I'm done with writing these ridiculous comparison clauses.

You get the point.

I'm not going away. I'm just no longer going to do scheduled posts where I've obviously coerced some poor soul to take my photo in some public venue while I stand stupidly. Those days are over.

By the way, whoever went insane trying to look for the 'Geni' antique ring from this post, you can get it in my shop on Etsy now. (Use code: KMASKS12 for 15% off. Sorry for your troubles.)

Pegged as Korea's answer to "Sex and the City," the show revolves around the lives of three 33-year-old best friends navigating through the murky waters of relationships, marriage, and work. While most of the sex scenes are absolutely cringeworthy with their awkwardness, the plot does raise a number of valid points about cheating spouses.

In a complicated web of feelings and memories, the main character In-young is torn between wanting to forgive her director boyfriend of 10 years for cheating with a young and beautiful actress. The majority of the show asks both In-young and the viewers to waver between her choosing the cheater who's eaten up most of her youth or the younger, good looking heir of a major hotel chain. To me, this is no contest.

And not just because he's taller, more athletic, better looking, and a bag of cash. (Although all of those points do help - let's face it, drama land.) He treats her better. He treats her like a princess. He's the conglomeration of all the good guy characters that Korean dramas push into our faces. The white knight in a black Buick SUV. (For some reason, Koreans leave to feature rich people driving cars that most people in America would think as middle class. Import taxes rendered these cars as luxury vehicles in Korea, pre-FTA. I think things are much different now.)

Granted I've never been in a situation like this, so I don't understand people who would choose to stay with the cheater boyfriend, complete with the paranoia that he might commit the same crime again. Am I the only one who would go for the new model? Even if he is in a Buick? Please, tell me I'm not the only one.

Also, I would tell my friend who is the president/owner of a successful e-commerce site that rakes in a revenue in the millions to give up her hatchback Ford Focus/Smart Car for something that would better fit her nearly 6'0 frame.
It was, hands down, the best Atlanta store opening I've ever seen. With delicious catered foods, free flowing dranks, and a live band, no fashion event in Atlanta could compare. The presentation of everything was ooh-worthy. Maybe it was a good thing you couldn't buy anything that night because anyone could be slowly convinced to drop $2K on a customized Elfa closet after all that.

I never thought of using organizers from The Container Store to present hors d'oeuvres, though it should come to no shock after being a reader of Luxirare for a few years. My personal favorites were these bamboo trays used to hold these delicious pork buns.
Although the presentation of the whoopee pies in these bright colored drawers made for a refreshing change that I'll definitely be looking into for my next dinner party.
Nestled around the town of Dahlonega, the number of Georgia's wineries have grown in the past few years. Although we initially attempted to go to all of them, we quickly realized that wine tastings weren't conducive to driving. Or walking. Or being out in public.

We began at Blackstock Vineyards where they had an 8 wine tasting menu for $10. I was torn between their '07 and '08 Ace Reserves. Nothing like a fine, smooth red wine!
The day ended at Frogtown, where we opted for lunch (hand pressed paninis!) and a glass of wine (orange colored rose!). Unfortunately, we were also treated to a healthy dose of entitled attitudes. A group of grown men (mid 40s, early 50s) sat behind us, discussing the effects of Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, saying that the people who are stranded and in need of rescue and help should be left to die for their "stupidity." The angel on my shoulder hopes that they're lucky enough to never experience the type of devastation that's struck so many people - losing their homes, family members, all of their possessions. But most of me hopes that bastard goes home to find everything they've known burnt to the ground. (With a can full of gas and a handful of matches, and still weren't found out.)

I had a little more than two days to spend in Hong Kong, but with work priorities taking over normal hours, I barely had enough time to sleep, eat, and catch up on lost episodes of "Jjak (짝)." But I was lucky enough to meet up with Sam from Sam Is Home and illustrator extraordinaire Emily Eldridge. Unfortunately, I wasn't at 100% and couldn't stop talking about my new favorite Korean matchmaking show. We went to Wired Cafe for some sweet desserts before I got to see some of Hong Kong's finest residents, roaches.

I've also started to regularly visit Din Tai Fung on every trip to Hong Kong. Obsessed with their handmade dumplings, but not a giant fan of their enormous wait. Luckily, I didn't have to wait at all this time around, and it was a matter of moments before I had those flour made soup sacks exploding in my mouth. (Har har.)

If all plans go right, I hopefully won't have to wait another year before I get to visit again! Cross all those fingers.
Except for those five seconds I had to endure walking from my car to the elevator, where you heard me shout, "Holy s***!" as the wind gust through my flimsy trench coat to reveal the nothingness underneath. (Kidding. I have clothes on, I swear.)
And if you run out of t.p., I know somebody who has enough to last them for the rest of next year, if 2012 doesn't get us all first. Txt me.

Filling in the spot that was once the be-seen place for the tackiest people of Atlanta (read: Real Housewives of Atlanta), Hudson North is a restaurant backed by the same people who run Cypress Pint and Plates and an inventive menu unlike that of any tavern/restaurant I've ever seen in this rather unadventurous town.

The interior is impressive. I mean really impressive. I wish my interior designer friend had come with us to this dinner, because she would have flipped and then spent the rest of the night uploading photos onto Facebook. Running with a nautical theme, there are anchors, rope, and natural wood everywhere. Latitude graffiti dot the table and walls, and simple mason jars with floating candles hang from the ceiling. Romantic, understated, and casual.

The drink menu is good. I felt like there could be a few additions to the wine list, but the wines that were available were a fine line-up. The Malbec was stunning. The champagne cocktail was delicious. It was perfect for taking the edge off a crazy Friday.

While the food menu could add a few more options for vegetarians (who are currently relegated to appetizers), it provides a number of options for all taste buds. We began the meal with the figs, which were mindblowingly delicious. I love the idea of sweet and salty, and adding bacon really gave the dish another dimension. But adding the spicy flavor was really a stroke of genius.

As for mains, we ordered the seared tuna, scallops, and the steak. All three were good, each with their own blend of flavors that melted nicely. I would've preferred a rawer tuna, but I know Americans have very different views on raw seafood than I do. One thing we all loved was that everything tasted really fresh, especially the vegetables. But one complaint that we all had was that the food was salty. Extremely salty. The only thing that wasn't salty was the hanger steak, which ended up being the envy of the table.

One thing that worries me is that I know a kitchen needs time to really perfect the menu, and I wonder if 3 months is long enough to get the flavoring, cooking, and everything else just right before Hudson North goes away forever.

The ambiance and services gets an A Plus. I feel like there really isn't a rival to Hudson North when it comes to maximizing the restaurant space, and really sticking with a theme. (Although I was slightly confused by the hostess who was dressed as a flapper. I couldn't decide if it was a Halloween costume or part of the restaurant decor. God, I would've flipped out if all the wait staff was dressed in striped Breton shirts and had a red kerchief tied around their necks.) The food needs a little tweaking, but I see a lot of potential.

If you do end up going, don't forget to add your name to the wall to show that you've dined there! Also, could you look for my name while you're there?

I usually tend to stay away from shoe brands my mother gravitates towards, so brands like Ferregamo, Cole Haan, and Stuart Weitzman - albeit classics - don't really register on my radar. But despite being a hardcore shoe girl (and I am a total shoe girl), there were a lot of elements that caught my eye.

This particular collection had a lot of subtle details that embellished and redefined a classic design. The classic black pump shown here has a very familiar shape. The pointed toe, the patent leather finish - all expected, but then there's the skinny silver stiletto peeking out from the back as an unexpected little twist. It's the perfect day to night heel to add to your staples.
Other designs that caught my eye were these raffia weave loafers that came in Easter ready colors. Ideal for the quirky Buckhead mom or upscale hipster. (They would also work wonders during the monsoon season in Asia, although I might opt for those studded jelly flats because of their tough girly charm.)

And my quest for a comfortable high heel brought me to eye two particular designs. One of them was a transparent heel wedge (we all know I'm a sucker for transparent heels), and the other was this magnificent cut out wedge with neon accents. With more cushion than a baby's bottom, I might be tempted to trade in my red Chloe platforms for a shoe I can wear for more than three hours.
ESPECIALLY if you're watching a horror film.

On my left, I had two ladies who spoke through the entire thing. All two hours. Most of it was useless commentary like, "What's in the box? What do you think is in the box?" thirty seconds before Ethan Hawke opened the box. Then there were a lot of "mmm-hmm"s and "oh no"s. Let's not mention the countless times they said "Awww" every time a child was on the screen. (There were A LOT of children. A LOT.)

To the right was the most douche-tastic couple in the history of everdom. I got treated to a few rounds of Basic Movie IQ 80 where he answered questions about Harry Potter's nemesis and the director of "Kill Bill." The real treat came during the film when he would point out obvious things as if they were incredible revelations. "I bet that box is going to be important." Or "the house is haunted." Somebody got dropped on the head as a baby. Bless your heart.
G-dragon is a source of fascination, disgust, and shock for me. He probably serves as much purpose in my life as Lady Gaga does to the general public. Most of the time, I'm trying to figure out what part of him is presentation and where he becomes reality. Half of me feels sorry for him (in that his stage persona overtakes his "real" self, probably) and the other half envies him like crazy (mostly because he can get away with saying, "Yes, sir, I'm one of a kind" without coming off as totally narcissistic).

I also spent an inordinate time debating over whether or not he's gay. Over the past 3-4 years I've gathered a hefty mental file of evidence supporting either position but have yet to come up with a decisive conclusion. I'm leaning towards yes, because out of all the Big Bang members, he seems the most likely. But who knows, maybe muscle-man Taeyang has been hiding out all along?

But let's move on to dissect this enigma's fashion.

Do you remember when G-dragon was a little baby YG rapper like this? I do. Those were the yesteryore years when he featured on songs with then big YG artists like Masta Wu and Gummy. I'm almost ashamed to write down the year so I won't date myself.

But with the release of his new solo album, "One of A Kind," we get to enjoy a motley of styles. Meet Boy-Next-Door/The-GD-You-Can-Bring-To-Your-Parents with his "That XX" (essentially, That Bastard) video. This is probably the most normal I've seen G-D in recent years, although can you really call a white turtleneck as "normal?"

Then with "One of a Kind," we have the traditional extravagant rapper video with girls, a baby tiger, and bright yellow cornrows. (God, why, WHY with the cornrows??? WHYYYYY??) We also have a segment in the middle where he wears a ton of Chanel while carrying a Chanel tennis racket. I guess he's utilizing that friendship with the Kaiser (Karl Lagerfeld) to its fullest.

To round off the set, "Crayon" exhibits lots of color associated with k-pop (as I've stated previously). Here, we've got the weirdest collection of outfits. There's the colorful pop stuff like below, then there's this bizarre drummer boy outfit. But that doesn't even close to the creepiest pastel color circa 1940s football outfit he dons at some point. And no, that's a Givenchy hat. It's a GiYONGchy hat, a nod to his real name, Gi(or JI?) Yong. (Note: the "chy" pronounced as "shi" could be interpreted as an honorific title given to strangers/anyone older than you.) Okay, that hat is kinda really brilliant.
In the format of "Temptation Island," they pick 6-7 guys and 5-6 girls (always less girls than guys) to stay for a week at a house in the Korean countryside. There, they have opportunities for dates and activities. The only difference is that there's no sex (maybe some scandalous hand holding and some cheek pecking) and lots of talk about marriage. LOTS of it.

They recently aired a celebrity special where they had D-list, washed up celebs from 10-15 years ago bear their souls and reveal to the nation just why they were nearly 40 and still single. Some of it was just tragic, especially this guy, named Big Joe, who once weighed 400 lbs. This number is appalling for Koreans (and probably for most Americans, though it's definitely less shocking after watching all those TLC specials/Honey Boo Boo), and it showed when he failed to get picked for a lunch date.

So, this lunch date. The show takes turns in having the girls and guys pick for the dates. In the first round, they had the women choose a lunch partner. In a tragic twist, the women had the side dishes in their lunchboxes while the men had white rice in theirs. So, if you didn't get picked, you had to eat a tin filled with white rice all alone. Poor Big Joe. Eating all those carb calories solo.
Curiosity killed Alicia's bank account.kittenmaskshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02620693925776449645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6881855683580605710.post-85003191626152614072012-10-05T06:30:00.000-04:002012-10-05T06:30:02.283-04:0018. stream of consciousnessI'm sitting here trying to figure out something witty and entertaining to write while gulping down this cheap ass zin from Trader Joe's. I was seriously wine deprived while I was in Asia. Cheap beer and high content alcohol in various forms (soju and whatever that vodka-like hot mess from China was) just doesn't create the same type of dulled buzz that's necessary for minimal productivity like wine.

When I go through customs at the Hartsfield Airport, I like to make up little lies about my employment. I find it odd that they ask you about what you do for a living. It's not like a drug dealer is going to be like, "I was in Thailand so I could source my manufacturers for next year's batch of the latest club drug that I will be introducing to the Atlanta market."

It makes me feel like Barbie. I get to be everything and nothing if I wanted. (Do they make Unemployed Barbie? Maybe she's a FUnemployed Barbie?) I've been a med student (no way in hell that's happening in real life), a chemical bioengineer (no idea what this is), graphic designer, writer, and unemployed. I'm thinking that I'd like to be a model agent for my next trip. What would you choose?
It's ridiculous how obsessed I've become with this show considering the obvious point that I'm not a guy.

I think the appeal of the show lies in that its format is similar to the VH1 "I Love the" series, which really shaped the way I approached cable television and nostalgia. For the longest time (and even now), my greatest wish is to become a VH1 commentator. If I were to go on "Made," that would be what I'd want to be "made" into. Seriously, there's a job that pays you to talk about what you think? Cha-ching.

Sample topics covered on "Guy Code?" Being broke. (Stop talking about how broke you are; it's unattractive.) One night stands. (If you're going to tell a story about it, make sure that there's at least one embarrassing moment.) Drinking. (If they put a cherry in your drink, you should slap the bartender.) Say what you will about "Jersey Shore," I love Vinny.
The entire store has been gutted and redone in the most beautiful and most breathless way ever.

I'm such a Club Monaco fangirl, especially as their latest collections have just been KILLING it on the minimalist, clean, yet quirky front. There are so many details I've been adoring this season, like the knitted skirts, pencil skirts with leather panel insets, and zodiac printed silk shirts. If Club Monaco were a man, I'd marry him.

Maybe if I hung around the men's shop long enough, I'll find myself a new boyfriend?
Dear Club Monaco, I'm so sorry I took these paparazzi photos of your store. I just love it so much that I had to share. If you ever let me in to take legit photos of your new store, I swear I will not disappoint.
There are definitely a few phrases that I've noticed are specific to fashion blogs. The use (or more often, misuse) of these words stems from the fact that most fashion bloggers are not the best writers. (There are, of course, a number of exceptions to this overly generalized statement.)

I'm ridiculous, so I've kept a running tally of these phrases in my tiny Muji notebook.

"organic" way of dressing - trans. I found this on the floor and put it on but need an intelligent way to describe how I got dressed today.

"infamous" - trans. very famous (ed. note: this word is sorely misused and makes me cringe when I hear it referred in blog-speak.)

"working on some exciting new projects" - trans. I'm busy and have worn the same outfit for the past two weeks, explaining why there are no outfit posts.

"the boy/boyf/man friend/man" - trans. boyfriend.

Today marked my second time attending an Atlanta FNO, and the third of its kind in this city. As someone who was part of a grassroots organization as it tried to become a national NGO, I'm very aware of the difficulties that lie in coordinating and planning an event that requires more than ten people. I'm so glad to see that my city, my hometown, and my first love participates in such a large, global event and appreciate all of the hard work that was put into constructing an FNO in Atlanta last night. But there are a few things that I wish we had or think we can do better.

For one, the events were lacking. I understand that we don't have the budget or resources of a large city like New York. We are still finding our fashion footing, but aside from the promise of nibbles, drinks, and the odd trunk show, there was nothing presented that was out of the ordinary. Yes, FNO is a great platform to introduce your fall collection, but it's also a great way to introduce new customers to your brand through an innovative and interactive event.

Secondly, the space inside Lenox should be utilized better. A thematic exhibition, perhaps, like Opening Ceremony's Korea-themed FNO extravaganza, would fare so positively with shoppers and actually bring people out of their homes to spend some time (and money) at the mall. And while the tent at Shops Around Lenox was impressive, the event seemed to miss the point of FNO, which is to be fun and exciting. It's a day when fashion is energetic and creative and not presented like the Met Gala. Fashion week is a constant reminder at how stuffy the fashion industry can be; FNO is the night where we can celebrate how fun and inviting fashion can be.

Another point that FNO-Atlanta seems to miss is the importance of engaging bloggers. There is no greater way to create buzz around an event than through bloggers. The best part is that the advertising is FREE! Get us excited about the event and we'll be posting about it not only on our blogs but all of the other social mediums we're addicting to updating constantly (i.e. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Four Square... am I missing anything?).

I'm a realistic girl. I don't expect to see Phillip Lim mixing cocktails for shoppers inside Nordstrom's or Rachel Roy handing out cupcakes inside Macy's with her signature smile. But I think we can do better. Our city deserves better.

But one thing that always gets my panties all bunched up is the waiting.

There is always a segment in which the lead man or woman waits a stupidly long time for the person they love to arrive or talk to them. For instance, I'm catching up on "My Princess" on Netflix and there is a moment when Park Hae Young (Song Seung Hun) sits outside of Lee Seoul (Kim Tae Hee)'s house for hours in order to talk to her. I mean, in one scene, the sun is out. In the next scene, the sun has set, and he's still outside her front door.

I know this segment is supposed to be touching and romantic, but if you saw someone standing outside your house for hours at a time, is that what you would think?

I guess what I find more incredulous about the situation is that I'm all too aware of Koreans and their marriage to impatience. (see: bbalee-bbalee culture) For a country that considers waiting 5 minutes at the bank a national travesty, I refuse to believe that there is a man out there - a Korean man, nonetheless - who is willing to wait for HOURS. IN THE COLD. Psh, yeah right.
