atlanta: buckhead container store

I was invited to the opening of the new Container Store at the corner of Wieuca Rd. and Peachtree St. on Thursday evening and was really blown away. It was, hands down, the best Atlanta store opening I've ever seen. With delicious catered foods, free flowing dranks, and a live band, no fashion event in Atlanta could compare. The presentation of everything was ooh-worthy. Maybe it was a good thing you couldn't buy anything that night because anyone could be slowly convinced to drop $2K on a customized Elfa closet after all that.

I never thought of using organizers from The Container Store to present hors d'oeuvres, though it should come to no shock after being a reader of Luxirare for a few years. My personal favorites were these bamboo trays used to hold these delicious pork buns.

Although the presentation of the whoopee pies in these bright colored drawers made for a refreshing change that I'll definitely be looking into for my next dinner party.

Thanks, Container Store for the invite!

museum of design - atlanta

I went to the Museum of Design Atlanta today with Rahul and saw the bathroom exhibit that's going to be there until mid-September, which was perfect because R. has an unhealthy obsession with bathrooms. There's a brief timeline on the bathroom, followed by three designers' interpretation of the modern bathroom. Each perspective is unique, but our favorite was definitely the interactive one by the Bouroullecs where you can construct your own sink. We're like kids; give us toys and we'll be entertained for hours. It's sad that our toys are now sink fixtures.

sidewalks are unassuming fields

These are the remaining photos from last Friday. After going to the Paul + Alice sample sale and eating oven brick pizza, Sunny and I wandered around Bukchon (복촌) to take photos of houses. I bet the people who live in the area hate living there because of all the tourists. It's one of the last areas in Seoul where traditional Korean style houses (한욱) still exist. A lot of the older areas in Seoul are being torn down and rebuilt in the name of modernity, and it's sad that these relics of history are slowly being removed from Seoul's architecture. At the same time, they're a total bitch to heat in the winter, so I can understand why you'd want an upgrade from spending $500 on heating.

My eyes look kinda closed in this photo. I swear my eyes aren't small.

so let's stand inside an empty room

I already mentioned the below briefly on my Twitter, but my verbosity can't be satisfied in 140 characters or less. I've spent the past few weeks immersed in design websites, trying to figure out how I'm going to be outfitting my new apartment. When I stumbled upon Remi Nicole's video for her single "Standing Tears Apart," I fell in love. The look doesn't really translate for me and my industrial space, but it's too beautiful to not gush.

dark, dark spaces

There was a supplement to this Vogue Korea I bought years back that showed the design spaces of designers like Roberto Cavalli, Phillip Lim, Richard Chai, and a handful of Korean designers. I was browsing through this book a few days ago when I came across this particular spread about Lee Ju-young.

From the red velvet curtains, the wall of crosses, dark wood paneling, and delicate chandeliers, it's my absolute dream lair. I'm such a huge fan of Gothic-Victorian, especially anything that reminds me of Dracula (which I'm reading right now). I can just picture the Count on his (cherry wood) throne, asking if he could suck my blood. My answer? "Only if I can live in this room for eternity."
