a suburban fairy tale

Once upon a time, there was a girl. She was very lonely. Or so she thought. But she still had her imagination and lots of fluffy thoughts thanks to novels but Netlifx, mostly. One day, she was introduced to a boy with whom she thought she had a connection despite the protestations of her friends (every single one of them). And so she opened herself up to him. Until one day, she discovered that he wasn't a rat or even a super rat, but just a scared little mouse.

Alone again, she wandered thoughtlessly for a few weeks until she saw a beautiful Boy in the windows of a black and white store. It was as if this Boy had been waiting for her all along, to be embraced in her arms and to swing proudly from her shoulder. It's so much easier to get the jokers out of the deck when you've got the world's most perfect Boy by your side. Well, in addition to your personal band of homegrown pink princess terrorists.

thanks solestruck!

I entered my "What's In My [Celine] Clutch" photo in the Solestruck contest and won! The most adorable leopard print with pink leather minibag came in the mail yesterday - perfect for all the upcoming music/beer/art/book festivals this fall. Is this a subtle hint for me to start incorporating more color and print into my wardrobe?

reincarnation of isabel marant dicker boots

Do you remember the Isabel Marant Dicker boots? Of course you do. Who could forget with Kate Bosworth and Rosie Huntington Whitley and even Katie Holmes prancing about with them on their feet? It was the subtle "it" boot of last fall, rendered even more lustworthy because of its exclusive availability and high sticker price.

Photobucket

Well, I almost scored myself a pair on Net-A-Porter. Almost is the clue word. Like an idiot, I listened to the sizing recommendation on their website and went one size down instead of ordering the usual 37. So, when they arrived, I had to send them back because they were too tight. I may be $615 richer, but it hasn't stopped these boots from haunting me.

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get them, because nearly every single high street retailer has released their own interpretation of this elusive boot.

Photobucket

Out of all of them, I want to say that the Aldo Qualheims are the closest to the original Dicker boots, since it keeps the low shaft and the side zip. The Steve Madden Pembrooks look like they would be the most snug fit and also the best suede, but at $160 and a chunkier heel, it does look like Dicker's bastard brother who came out of the womb missing a few essential parts (i.e. the side zipper). ASOS' Aggie is the cheapest and the highest heel height, but the boot is too high and the pull tab on the side is an extraneous detail that has little use aesthetically or in practicality.

Verdict: Go with the ASOS Aggies. You'll cry less when the heel eventually gives out from excessive use. Also, I don't forsee these boots living for another season.

what's in my clutch?

Photobucket

You'd be amazed at what I can fit in this thing.

Celine bi-color pouch can hold:
  • wallet
  • envelope pencil case holder for lipstick and other necessities
  • Dior Addict lipstick in Diorkiss
  • Fresh's Strawberry Flowers travel perfume
  • butter nail polish in Lady Muck & Artful Dodger (I've now started painting nails while sitting in the car)
  • Fujifilm Nexia Q1 for fun photos
  • Kindle - because one day I will finish the "Game of Thrones" series

i'm yours now so now i don't ever have to leave

Despite my constant quoting of Carrie's bag lady woes ("I'm homeless! I'll be a bag lady! A Fendi bag lady, but a bag lady!!"), my handbag addiction is completely under control. I'm 95% more likely to plop down money for shoes than for a lump of leather. I suppose it helps that shoes are cheaper than most bags - I'm very close to breaking off on a tangent about the cost of luxury goods, but I'll refrain for another time. This all changed when Phoebe Philo stepped in as creative director for Celine.

The moment those envelope bags and Classiques started appearing on every single editor's arm, the entire world drooled. Then the Luggage totes arrived, and Tommy Ton went insane clicking his camera shutter. When I tagged along with a friend to the duty free store in Seoul, I felt the cold chain attaching my heart to my battered Gucci bag melt as I greedily ran my grubby hands all over the buttery soft leather. My next handbag was going to be a Celine.

Say hello to the Boston.

Double dyed leather - first red, and then black, which explains the red trim, my new baby is super lightweight with soft, moldable leather. I bought her mostly for function, as there are two side pockets (the outer zips) and a roomy center. The removable shoulder strap is perfect for subways (I stand in the corner with a Kindle in one hand and a Dunkin' Donuts cup in the other), and it's got enough room for my gigantic, scary paparazzi camera, snacks, and junk fliers I pick up from persistent ajummas. J'adore.

Been feeling a bit nostalgic this week and composed a playlist made up of '90s alternative rock. I don't think Fuel was big outside of Atlanta, but "Shimmer" was the anthem of middle school. Of course we can't forget staples like anything from Nirvana's "Nevermind," Radiohead's "Creep," and the staple of Oasis' "Wonderwall."

I miss hot mess Courtney Love. All you need now is some smeared, bright red lipstick.

calling all shoe addicts [SOLD]

I'm selling a pair of Acne Atacoma wedges in size 37. I bought them, and they're too small. I'm asking only for what I paid, which was $480 + $15 (shipping & handling from Sweden) + $185.50 in U.S. custom & duties taxes. Yeah, that part really sucked.

They're the black leather ones with a silver bottom and sold out everywhere. As much as I love them, I can't bring myself to shove my feet into a pair of shoes that are awesomely too small.

I'll upload pics tomorrow - I only got four hours of sleep last night, and my caffeine intake is making me crash. zZzzZzz.

why you so obsessed with me?

If you've seen my Twitter in the past few days, you know that I've been on an e-bay spree. In my mania, I managed to snap up a pair of the Roberto Cavalli SS08 wedges at a price that will make you gasp with wonder. Yes, girls, the recession is proving to be an extremely helpful tool when it comes to procuring designer goods. (I think all the NY banking girls are finding themselves with the necessity of purging their closets. HA!)

The monster platform is exactly what I'm in the mood for, and the extra heavy hardware holds a previously noted deep fascination with the Wild West. It may take me a few hours to fully master the art of teetering on 5" wooden platforms, but I'm up for the challenge.

suck my boot

Somewhere in California, I fucked up my right foot. (I also lost a ring, but that's another story.) I'm pretty sure it was when I was drunkenly walking around Huntington Beach in my cheapass Forever 21 Alexander Wang knock-offs. I need to see a podiatrist, but I doubt my insurance covers injuries sustained from poor choices of footwear. I've been wearing flats lately, and it's been making me drool for heels like this:

i put some new shoes on and suddenly everything's right

The reconstruction is turning out to be more laborious than thought. In the meantime, enjoy these people's shoes. This is from my Fall 09 NYC folder. Does anyone know which show this was taken at?

swinging my fringe boots

When Forever 21 came out with their knock off version of Alexander Wang's fringe boots (you know, the ones Alessandra Ambrosia wore in that editorial for March's US Elle and also the very ones the hottest bitches wore to NYFW), the cheap ass in me had to order a pair because I wasn't about to drop $600 on a pair of shoes I would probably wear for one season.

I debuted these suckas over the weekend for trash-face margarita night at El Azteca on Saturday where some black lip-stick lesbians cooed over my shoes and then house-browsing on Sunday. They're amazingly comfortable, but they're also unbelievably cheap. The actual heel tends to move if you step too hard, and the fake leather reeks - literally. But for $35, I'd say that they're not a bad buy. Also, I should say that they're exactly like the original Wang's, down to the thong part that goes in-between your big and second toe. (I didn't think it had this because I couldn't see it in the picture.)

still single

A conversation...

her: You're just too picky. No wonder you're still single. There are too many stipulations.
me: There's no such thing as being picky. It's just a matter of how much vodka it's going to take. I don't want to drink an entire bottle every time I go on a date.

Whether or not you have a valentine or not, these are some hot duds. Besides, Fred Flare has given me the option to turn a frog into a prince.

i want to be a fairy

When I saw these shoes in the new Balenciaga ads in Vogue, I literally drooled. Well, I was eating a lollipop and it fell out of my mouth. But the shoes are absolutely orgasmic.

I love the little glass heel. This is the shoe Cinderella would have worn to the ball if she was lucky enough to have Nicholas Ghesquiere as a fairy godfather. (Oh god, can you imagine how insanely incredibly breathtaking you would look if this were to happen? Screw Prince Charming, just take over the entire empire with your fabulous frock!)

I might just have to attempt to procure one of these. Of course, this would mean that I would be selling my soul to the devil, as that is the only way I would be able to afford them.

aggy strikes again

Agyness Deyn has been kinda ruining my life. When I see her on TV or my computer screen, I have to drop everything and look. It doesn't matter if I'm in the middle of cooking a steak or picking eye boogers off my dog. Aggy demands my full attention at all times.

So when she started walking around Manhattan with this little red clutch, I stopped and stared. Then I realized that this is the bag I've wanted for a while. It's got a chain that you can remove. You don't have to sling it over your arm and has enough space for my wallet, cell phone, and a day planner and nothing else. (When I carry big bags, I tend to carry big things. By a week's end, you will find several books, at least 2 pairs of shoes, candy wrappers, 5 packs of gum, old receipts, and other people's wallets and keys.)

I guess the only question is: do I copy Aggy and get it in red (although I'm kinda thinking that patent leather is on its way to my "old news" list) or be bold with the aubergine (purple) lizard?
