play time's over

Is it just me or is there a dearth of good designs lately? I'm seeing high street collaborations left and right and can't seem to find one that's being done right. The Karl Lagerfeld collection for Macy's looks cheap and extremely generic. All the items can be found at your local Marshall's for a fraction of the already affordable price. Don't even get me started on the crap that's being hawked at Sears under the Kardashian name. It looks like Snooki and J-wow's wardrobe without the class. (I never thought that would be a sentence I would ever write.)

Even Alexander Wang looks off his touch. Do you remember the brilliance of the SS08 show? I bought four pieces from that collection (three of them at Drew Lewis when they carried women's clothing and A. Wang), and I'm still wearing them. I was initially drawn to this jumper because it reminded me of Little J's wardrobe in the first season of Gossip Girl (before she got all goth monster on us), but I've found it a little harder to work into everyday life now that I can't pass for a prep school girl anymore. Doesn't stop me from trying, though maybe I should take a lesson from Uncle Karl and Kim K. and admit my days of little girl forays are over.

  1. I feel the same way about designer collaborations. No matter how you try and look at it, the collaboration pieces just aren't as good as the designer ones. Not even close.

I'm not a big H&M fan but I was interested in their collaboration with Swedish Hasbeens, but then I saw the shoes and decided pass on them.

  2. I feel like designer collaborations used to be a little more special. Now it's just overplayed. There is no excitement surrounding any of them anymore.

You look kind of Addams family esque, and I mean that in only the best way. Love the pieces together. Kind of unconventional and quirky, and ahhh your nails! Great touch.

  4. Those Balenciaga booties- gahhh so gorgeous! I love how you layered the A Wang jumper too!

I completely agree with you about a lot of collabs. I'm actually not that excited about the Missoni stuff at target – especially the clothes. What say you?
