if you're a hipster in atlanta, raise your hand

Dear Atlanta hipsters,

In a time such as now and in a society such as ours, we are like the Parisian bohemians protesting the bourgeoisie society in the early 19th century in pursuit of a greater calling revolving around the treasured ideals of freedom, beauty, truth, and love (taken straight out of "Moulin Rouge" without shame). You want to throw away the social stigma attributed to your private school background and submerge into an underground culture in order to redefine yourself. I get it. But can we get something straight? Don't you think it's a bit of a contradiction to be against uniformity and then go and create a uniform of your own?

Okay, I'm going to be honest. This isn't about you compromising your ideals. This is really about me really fucking hating seeing everyone and their moms wearing an American Apparel tee, skinny jeans, leather motorcycle jackets, and Raybans at El Bar. The place is sticky already with a mixture of drinks and vomit. I really don't enjoy rubbing up against your faux leather in 98% humidity. That said, now that we're straight on where I stand, the next time I see you in this ridiculous getup, I'm going to assume that you want me to punch you in the face - which I shall do gladly.

  1. Haha! This post is awesome! I see these kids all over the place here too... luckily we don't have an american apparel nearby, otherwise it would probably be worse!

  2. Ahh, the uniform of hipsters everywhere. To be honest, though, I default to this on my days off.

  4. The first thing I thought of when I saw the raybans/leatherjacket was "ROBERT PATTINSON". Uhhhh

  5. ^^ ahahhaha at the robert pattinson comment.

i too am guilty of this outfit (swap raybans for john lennon-ish sunglasses) when rolling out of bed and having only 10 minutes to get out the door and to work (yes, i can dress like this to work woo!)

  6. AMEN!! I am totally sick of seeing what I shall call the "more privileged" kids in London, all wearing deep cut v-necks, congregating in tea houses and talking loudly and pretentiously so that we all assume they are cultured and clever. Ok, a bit harsh, but for real, they are so fake. Oh, and Oldboy is flippin fantabulous - I LOVE the corridor fight scene.

  7. So true, Miss A! I think it's also hilarious that there isn't even a girl and guy uniform- EVERYONE wears the same thing. It was even worse at the Earl the other night. Uniform: jeans and plaid shirt. We'll make sure to shake it up next time we are out and about.

  12. this is my sweat-pant outfit solution (i REFUSE to wear sweatpants in public). the thought of it being a uniform though kind of scares me. also- how can you guys wear leather jackets? isn't it super humid down yonder (i know back in Louisiana it's humid as balls)? even here in the desert, the thought of wearing a pleather moto sends shivers down my spine.

  13. This is the NY hipster uniform from last year that I think a lot of tourists are sporting more of this year. I'm glad to see less Ray Bans tbh, but tourists were flooding the subways today with theirs on with the skinny leather moto jacket and some skinny jeans. I love that look but it doesn't work on most of the people that are trying to pull it off.
